Sophie is currently (Fall 2024) a senior at Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK High School in Long Island, NY, interested in environmental science research. Sophie’s interest in environmental sustainability stems from her biodiesel synthesis research for Feinstein Institute’s Medical Marvels competition in high school. Sophie’s AP research project focused on optimizing the transesterification process for biodiesel from algal biomass. Her most recent focus at the Catalysts Design & Energy Applications Laboratory is scaling SSZ-13 zeolite synthesis in sustainable catalysis.
